Verizon App Challenge

Our app for the Verizon App challenge was supposed to describe a problem that needed to be resolved and why. Our app needed to resolve the problem in a clever and effective way that would help our community. We chose to do an app for foreign language classrooms that would allow students to communicate with students in other countries. The students could write to the other students to learn more about their culture and what daily life is like for them. We worked in groups to complete this. I had 6 other people in my group, and we meet up at the library about 5 times to make this project. Overall, it took us about 2 months to complete this project. Two skills I learned when completing this project were leadership and creative thinking. I organized the group, scheduled our meetings, and assigned tasks. While we were working, I kept us on task and working efficiently. I motivated everyone to contribute to the essay questions and also to fill out the student release forms. We needed to make the app unique, so we all had to think creatively to come up with a topic, answer the essay questions, design the app, and make the video. I learned many new methods to think creatively with the help of prompts from Verizon’s webpage. Overall, the project helped me gain valuable skills such as leadership and creative thinking. This app will help me in the future because I learned how to work as a team to accomplish our goals in a technology-related atmosphere (similar to what I want to do when I grow up).
